Directed by Professor Christoph Lees and Dr Anna Clark, The practical obstetric ultrasound foundation course gives access to scanning hardware for hands-on simulation over one week.

This course is a follow-on from the Obstetric Ultrasound Foundation Theory Course. To meet the registration requirements you must:
• be a London O&G trainee with an HEE training number
• currently be in either your ST1 or ST2 training year
• have completed the Obstetric Ultrasound Foundation Theory Course

As part of this course, you will take home a personal compact OPUS ultrasound simulator for one week during which you will work through ultrasound training modules, mapped to the RCOG basic competencies such as performing basic biometry (AC, HC and FL), CRL measurement and placental location. The modules will be supported by two evening virtual sessions with Professor Christoph Lees and Dr Anna Clark

HEE delegates will need to pick up the equipment from West London: Queen Charlotte’s Hospital

Course Dates:

The course will be from 14th August – 1st September You will be provided with set up video’s, a troubleshooting guide and email support.

The equipment will need to be collected from your chosen hub the week beginning 14th August  and must be returned the week beginning 28th August

It is the responsibility of the trainee to contact their hub to organise collection and return of the simulator

Registration Fee:

There is no registration fee but there is a £50 deposit on the loan of the equipment

The deposit will not be returned for late returns or damaged equipment

System requirements:

  • A Windows 10 computer or laptop
  • Internet access as the courses are accessed via the Cloud
  • Admin access as you will need to install the simulation software
  • Please note the software cannot be installed on NHS or College machines due to firewall restrictions
  • The software is not compatible with mac computers

Your personal information will be shared with HEE and your local hub for administration purposes only.

Delegate criteria/Information:

  • To register you will need to have completed the Obstetric Ultrasound Foundation Theory Course
  • You will need to be able to travel to your local hub to collect and return the equipment
  • A £50 refundable deposit will need to be paid on registration

The simulation system can only run on Windows, unfortunately, it is not compatible with Mac OS.  Please note you will need to install the simulation software and therefore will not be able to do this on NHS or college computers.

Laptops will be available for loan from your local hub if you do not have the required device.
